World Senior Chess Championship Final: home boy Jude Acers brings home a top third finish, having played a strong lineup that included four Grandmasters and three International Masters. His performance was twenty points above his FIDE rating. Just today I learned that this was done without access to a computer database, his laptop having gone missing in airport security upon departure. That is a huge disadvantage in any competition, computers being the main tool for studying one’s forthcoming opponents. Look for Jude at his sidewalk chess table in the French Market (by the Gazebo) next week.
Thanks, Charles.
Other fun facts: Jude faced 11 opponents from 10 countries. And he was 1 of only 2 Americans who competed in the WSCC this year.
Mr. Jude,
YOU ARE AWESOME!
