Got any games with Jude you would like to share? 3

We recently received a request from Michael Ciamarra who is trying to pull together a collection of Jude’s games and positions. From Michael:

If you can circulate a message to the Jude Acers community that any game scores they would like to send me of their games with Jude as I am in the process now of collecting games and positions for a book on Jude’s chess play. They could also send me combinations or endgames they played with Jude that might be of interest.

If you can help, just leave a comment to this post and we’ll forward your email address to Michael and he’ll contact you.

Chess under a blazing sun with the clock ticking was an experience I had in New Orleans the year after Hurricane Katrina did so much damage. Jude Acers’s table was in Decatur Street where our hotel was. Each day I played him for the $5 stake and each day lost. Sometimes, instead of saying: ‘I resign’ , I’d say: ‘I feel another $5 coming on!’ and we’d play again.

On our last day, having played quite well for me, we reached this position (I trust Forsythe notation will do rather than any diagram):

    I was Black: 7r/ p1k1P1p1/ bpp1nr2/ 3p1Np1/ 6P1/ 2N5/ PPP4P/ 2KRR3 (W)

    1. Nxd5+! cxd5 2. Rxd5 g6? (Jude very graciously pointed out I that might have got a draw (with…Re8, perhaps) .
    3.Nd6 Ng7 Here Jude thought for 10-15 minutes. 4 e8(=N)+ ! Rxe8
5 Rxe8 and after two spite-checks I conceded with only a few minutes on each of our clocks.

My wife, returning from shopping, was given a 30-second summary of our match while she
was still quite a distance from the table. Jude’s got a good carrying voice.

Brian, thank you for sharing. You provided not only good analysis but an excellent narrative as way of background to the position. The underpromotion theme is nice and not frequently seen. Appreciate you taking the time to post.
